Traditions
When it comes to workplace traditions you need to keep telling the team the ‘why’. And why is that… well people forget and you hire new people for starters. Having clearly documented, communicated and celebrated traditions can create and build a sense of belonging.
One tradition I really needed to know the ‘why’ was the UglyChristmasSweater. I am from Australia and at Christmas time the last thing I need or want is a polyester sweater in the middle of summer.
But, here in the northern hemisphere at Christmas you need a jumper (still preferably not polyester).
Now, my H&M number has never seen me win the competition but it puts me in the game and boosts my holiday cheer.
So… remember the why of your workplace traditions, invite others to join you in them, review them and ensure they benefit your team, and especially ensure they develop belonging in the team.
What traditions do you love at your workplace?
BTW I also enjoy May The Fourth (4 May – Star Wars Day).
Routines
Routines and rhythms – these frame and direct our lives.
One of mine is cycling to/from work. It is not a long trip but I feel the benefits from it every day.
For me the benefits include:
– mental preparedness for the day
– helping transition from work to home
– exercise and physical movement
– reduce C02 emissions
– supports my overall health
A Swedish-Danish study from 2016 has shown that the daily bike ride to and from work lowers the risk of both overweight, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. Hello, this is worth it alone.
It was great to track my activities as a part of the Winter Cycling Week (25 November – 1 December 2024) organized by the Danish Cyclists’ Federation
I am grateful for eloomi (a Dayforce company) for opening up for us to create a team.
What are some of your favourite routines you follow?
