Last week I had a birthday. Yay!

One of the gifts from my Ønskeskyen (gift wish list) was the LEGO Group Bonsai tree and I was fortunate enough to received it .

As my daughter and I sat down together on Sunday evening to build the bonsai tree, two things stood out during the build:

1. Gratitude
2. Comparison

1. Gratitude – I was grateful to have the time with my daughter and to see her process in building the bonsai tree together. I was grateful that Lego Designer, Nico Vas, has had the opportunity and backing to create the Lego Bonsai tree. I was grateful for the kindness of friends.

2. Comparison – Can you imagine how many hours, weeks or months (perhaps even years) that has been invested by Nico, and the production and marketing teams at Lego to get this to market? Yet when it came time for us to build it was just a couple of leisurely hours. I suppose that is like a lot of things in life. We look at something as it is today and not fully take the time to appreciate how much has gone into project and then unhelpfully compare it to our own journey or progress. This will most likely steal any joy or pleasure from our own journey.

The take-aways for me is
* gratitude gets you much further than you think it might – don’t hold back sharing it,
* comparison robs you of the joy of your journey and growth, and
* take the time to create – it will be worth it.

And yes, the light pink ‘flowers’ are frogs!

See Nico talk about the Bonsai tree here.
